Stop payments for a subscription you cancelled

Use this if a company keeps taking payments from your card after you cancelled.

Tell your bank to stop the payments

Tell your bank to stop the payments, not only the company. Under FCA rules, your bank must stop them once you ask. Ask at least one business day before the next payment is due.

Under the Payment Services Regulations 2017, a payment taken after you withdraw your consent is an unauthorised transaction. Your bank must refund that payment, and any charge it caused, by the end of the next business day (regulation 76).

Keep proof that you cancelled

Keep the email, screenshot, or reference number that shows the date you cancelled. It proves you cancelled before the company took the payments.

This letter explains your rights in general terms. It is not legal advice for your own situation.
