Corrections policy

We hold companies to account for what they tell you, so we publish how we handle our own mistakes. Tell us about an error and we will fix it and say what we changed.

Last updated

The short version

  • Email corrections@digitalconsumers.org.uk and tell us what is wrong.
  • We reply within 5 working days, and settle it within 21 days.
  • We correct a confirmed error as soon as we have checked it.
  • A corrected piece carries a note saying what changed and when.
  • We fix typos and broken links without a note.

Tell us about an error

Email corrections@digitalconsumers.org.uk. Tell us which piece you mean, quote the part you think is wrong, and say what you think the right version is. If you can point us at a source, that speeds things up.

You do not have to be the subject of a piece to raise an error, and you do not have to give a reason for asking. If you are a company we have written about, say so, because it tells us who to reply to.

What we do next

We reply within 5 working days to say we have received it and what we are doing. We settle the matter within 21 days.

We check the claim against the source it came from. Where we got it wrong, we correct the piece as soon as we have finished checking. Where we think the piece is right, we write back and explain why.

How we mark a correction

A corrected piece carries a note at the foot saying what we changed and the date we changed it. The note stays for as long as the piece is published.

What we fix without a note

Spelling, punctuation, formatting, and broken links get fixed without a note, because nothing a reader relied on has changed. Anything that changes a fact, a figure, a date, a name, or what we said someone did gets a note.
